Copper Iris Fountain's

The iris's were built over  the winter of 2004, taking approximately 3 months to build.  Entirely made of copper, this fountain has never yet had water through it.  Through the process of building it, and carefully heating the copper with a blow torch, the copper can be made to turn colour with the heat, giving this fountain a patina of purple, red and blue hues.  Depending upon the application and request, this fountain would be sprayed with a coat of  clear lacquer to keep the original colour and shine for about 2 years, at which time the lacquer would slowly wear off and the natural process of patina would occur.  I usually try to make an odd number of stems and the iris's have been built in 2 sizes so far.  The large fountain is approximately 5 feet tall and about 2 1/2 feet in diameter.  The smaller fountain is about 2 1/2 feet tall and 1 1/2 feet in diameter.  The process of naturally aging is endless.
